Cahuilla Basketry has been a part of the Cahuilla people for a very long time and incorporates the beauty of the desert and mountains from which they live. Rose Ann learned to make baskets from her relative and friend Donna Largo, a renowned Cahuilla basket maker. Rose Ann comes from a line of Cahuilla basket makers from the foothills around Cahuilla and Thomas Mountains. Rose Ann is a member of the Cahuilla Band of Indians. Rose Ann is a humble woman with a generous heart. She loves to teach and pass on her knowledge about basketry. For this class, Rose Ann will be teaching how to weave a basket using local traditional grass materials of pana’ul or yucca, súl or deer grass, sélet or juncus. This class is for beginners and those who want to know how to weave baskets, prepare materials, and love to share stories.
