Mission
The mission of the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum Archives is to collect, preserve, and protect a variety of original documentary materials containing information of permanent historical value relating to the history of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians and Cahuilla culture in general. By sustaining evidence that reflects the life and activities of those who created such material, the Archives ensure it is available for successive generations to discover.
Archival Collections
Holdings of the Archives include sound and video recordings, oral histories, photographs, postcards, and other types of paper ephemera. The Archives offers finding aids to these collections and Cahuilla collections from other institutions. Finding aids are an excellent starting point for researchers interested in learning more about the archival materials under the care of the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum and are available for viewing by appointment.
Some finding aids are now available online through the Online Archive of California (OAC). More will become available as collections are processed.
Reproduction & Media Use
Digital reproductions of select materials for personal/research use only may be provided to researchers for a fee. The Media Reproduction Fee is a flat fee determined by media type and quantity.
Media Type Media Reproduction Fee
Photograph (personal/research use only) $10.00 per file/image
A/V Media (personal/research use only) $15.00 per file/recording
Paper Materials (personal/research use only) $0.15 per page
Commercial and academic press use of Agua Caliente Cultural Museum media are based on a lengthier Media Use Fee schedule and may be granted on a case-by-case basis. Some types of media-use requests will not be granted, including electronic transmission and uses deemed contextually and/or culturally inappropriate.
Research
Opportunities to view archival materials are available by appointment only. An advance statement of research needs is required for museum staff to locate, retrieve, and organize relevant materials located at an off-site location. Same-day requests cannot be accommodated. A research fee may be charged at a prorated rate of $50.00 per hour for research requests that require more than a half hour of staff time.
Please contact the Staff Archivist Jon Fletcher at jfletcher@accmuseum.org or 760.833.8171 to discuss your research needs.
