AGUA CALIENTE CULTURAL MUSEUM LAUNCHES NATIVE AMERICAN ROCK ART COLLECTION ONLINE

Palm Springs, CA – October 2009: Agua Caliente Cultural Museum announces the online launch of the Daniel F. McCarthy Native American Rock Art Collection, hosted by the Online Archive of California (OAC). The Daniel F. McCarthy Rock Art Collection consists of photographic media and associated site data recording Native American rock art sites throughout southern California and the western United States. The collection was photographed and recorded from 1970-1990 by Daniel F. McCarthy, Tribal Relations Program Manager for the San Bernardino National Forest. Each online rock art image is embedded within descriptive metadata such as state, county, and panel number. All fields are searchable by means of the OAC’s search mechanism and can be accessed at: http://www.oac.cdlib.org/findaid/ark:/13030/kt8t1nf3p0

The Online Archive of California is a storehouse of descriptions of the materials housed in over 120 California archives, libraries, museums, and other institutions. It is a Web site that provides free access to detailed descriptions and images. There are currently 22 Agua Caliente Cultural Museum collection finding aids available on the site, with more to be added in the future.
